Horatio Alger Award

Bill Farley was awarded the Horatio Alger award from the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans.The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans was established in 1947 to dispel the belief among the nation's youth that the American Dream was no longer possible. The association was named after author Horatio Alger, whose tales of overcoming adversity through perseverance and the adherence to basic moral principles captivated the public in the late 19th century. This unique and highly respected award recognizes truly distinguished Americans for their "individual initiative and commitment to excellence; as exemplified by remarkable achievements accomplished through honesty, hard work, self-reliance and perseverance over adversity".

The Freedom Award

America's Freedom Foundation is a nonprofit volunteer organization promoting ideals of democracy and freedom through education and events. The foundation was established in 1980 and annually presents one of the largest 4th of July celebrations in the country, America's Freedom Festival. Each year the foundation also presents The Freedom Award, which honors exceptional individuals who personify some or all of the four traditional values of America's Freedom Festival: family, freedom, God and country.Bill Farley was a recipient of The Freedom Award.

Boys and Girls Club Honoree of the Year

Bill Farley was the Boys and Girls Club Business/Community Honoree of the Year. In every community, boys and girls are left to find their own recreation and companionship in the streets. An increasing number of children are at home with no adult care or supervision. Young people need to know that someone cares about them. Boys & Girls Clubs offer that and more. Club programs and services promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence. NWPC Good Guy Award

Bill Farley received the National Women’s Political Caucus Good Guys Award in 1986. The Good Guys Award, officially known as the Martin Abzug Memorial Award, is presented annually to men who have been supportive of women and who have demonstrated a commitment to women’s equality in their field of expertise. The National Women’s Political Caucus (www.nwpc.org) is a bipartisan, multicultural grassroots organization dedicated to increasing women’s participation in the political field and creating a political power base designed to achieve equality for all women. Past Good Guys Award winners include former Vice President Al Gore, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield of Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream and BET Founder and Charlotte Bobcats Owner Robert L. Johnson.

Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame Induction

On May 9, 1998, Bill Farley was inducted into the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame for his contributions to his fellow man and the fame he brought to his community, state and nation. Bill was specifically recognized for his willingness to serve on numerous educational, civic and cultural boards, his philanthropic activities and his dedication to his family.

Golden Plate Award

Bill Farley was presented with the Golden Plate award.The Golden Plate Award is presented annually since 1961 by the Academy of Achievement to approximately twenty-five guests of honor at the International Achievement Summit. Chosen by the Academy's Awards Council and other distinguished authorities, these men and women of exceptional accomplishment in the sciences, professions, business, industry, arts, literature, sports, entertainment, and public service are acclaimed ... not as winners, but as "representatives of the many who excel."

Ireland-U.S. Council Outstanding Achievement Award

The Ireland - U.S. Council for Commerce & Industry, Inc. was founded in 1963. The purpose of this Council is to build business links between America and Ireland. In pursuit of its aim, the Council hosts frequent events in Ireland and in the United States. Through its Award for Outstanding Achievement, presented each year at the Annual Dinner, the Council honors persons who have made significant contributions to the development of closer economic, business or commercial ties between the two countries. The Council's Annual Award is a citation of distinction which has been presented to some of the leading figures in Ireland and in the United States.Bill Farley received this award.

Apparel Industry Board - Special Award

The Apparel Industry Board, Inc. (AIBI) a 501 © 6, is a delegate agency of the City of Chicago, Department of Planning and Development and is the only official organization in Illinois specifically dedicated to the needs of the sewn industry. AIBI is comprised of the major players in Greater Chicago whose careers and business expertise span all facets of the industry including design, manufacturing, merchandising, sales, retail, marketing and finance. AIBI is here to nurture and support designers based in Greater Chicago and is constantly developing new programs to better serve and promote the industry as a whole.
